Accounts and browser storage
Kettle Notes processes your account name, username and account identifier when you connect the extension. The extension stores your account information and authentication token in local browser storage and sends the token with requests to your connected backend to authenticate you. Local storage also holds your preferences and interview notes. Session storage preserves the current interview transcript and assistant state while the background service is suspended. Disconnecting removes the saved token and account information; it does not delete previously saved interview records.
Automatic transcript synchronization and AI processing
When your account is connected and automatic synchronization is enabled (the default), the extension sends interview transcript segments, speaker names and roles, meeting identifiers, titles and timestamps to your connected Kettle Notes backend during the meeting. Saved reports can also include your notes and interview context. You can disable automatic synchronization in the extension settings; this does not delete data already synchronized or disable separate AI requests. When AI assistance is enabled or requested, relevant transcript text, interview context and your instructions are sent through the backend to the selected AI model provider to generate suggestions and reports.
Optional screenshots
When you grant the optional page-capture permission and click the screenshot control, the extension captures an image of the visible browser tab. Images may contain participant names, faces, shared screens and other visible content. Captured images are held in the meeting tab and uploaded to your connected backend when included in a saved or synchronized interview report. Screenshots are stored with the interview record; the current extension does not send screenshot images to the AI model. Granting capture permission does not enable continuous screen recording.
